Stay Informed
The changes to travel don’t end when you check out of the hotel or drop off your rental car. It is important that travellers understand quarantine requirements (depending on where they have travelled) and are able to identify any COVID-related symptoms before they return home. These are new changes to travel for everyone, so consider sharing any insights and knowledge gained from your experience with your company and fellow travellers. Below we have provided answers to the most commonly asked questions and important links to access when returning home.
Frequently asked questions:
What if I show symptoms during my trip?
Symptoms of COVID-19 can include coughing, shortness of breath, sore throat, loss of taste and/or smell, diarrhea and a fever. If you are displaying symptoms once you arrive at your destination, contact your primary care physician or medical provider. You will want to review your company’s travel policy for further direction as to when it is necessary to contact your employer. Self-quarantine may be necessary until you can submit to a test administered by a medical professional. Testing results can be turned around as quickly as 10 minutes or take as long as several days depending on variety of factors, such as location availability, severity of symptoms, and healthcare provider used
Will I be able to self-quarantine at the hotel if I have tested positive?
All major hotel brands have a standard of procedures for guests with known COVID-19 symptoms. This may include additional isolation for the duration of stay without access to housekeeping or other hotel services. You will need to adjust to this limited ability to leave the room, such as buying a supply of groceries, medications, or other items necessary for a 14-day quarantine.
Do I need to self-quarantine when I return?
Some provinces (and most countries) are requiring travellers to self-quarantine upon arrival, depending on which province or country the traveller has visited or are travelling from. For domestic quarantine restrictions, cross-reference your departure location with your arrival destination using this interactive tracking map from the Canadian Travel and Tourism Roundtable.
If I test positive will I still be able to return home?
If you test positive, you will be required to self-quarantine at your current location for a minimum of 14 days. Once that period of time has lapsed, you will be retested and allowed to return home if you test negative.
